This was a very interesting performance for many reasons : a good cast, with funny singers-actors (the audience laughs very often), and the first time it was possible to hear the original sistro. On Simone Fermani's website, we can read : "He discovered from the original score and rebuilt the sistro (sistrum) the instrument that Gioacchino Rossini designed and indicated for his "Barbiere di Siviglia" (the barber of Seville). This instrument disappeared after the first performance of this opera in Roma in 1816. He has patented his discovering and now he's the only owner of this instrument all over the world. The sistro has been used for the first time after its discovering in the performances of "Barbiere" that he has conducted at Opera Marseille; after this performance a newspaper of Marseille had exalted its inestimable and wonderful discovering."
